Beyond his travels in France, Maurice Denis traveled the world, following orders, exhibitions, friends, and of course personal desires and interests.

Beyond the borders, he travelled to Germany, Belgium, Holland, Spain, England, Switzerland, Algeria, Greece and some countries that were unexpected at the time, such as Russia, the United States and the Holy Land. But his great passion was Italy, where he visited about fifteen times, and where he stayed for several months on two occasions, with his wife and child(ren). Starting with the small painting of the Mörschwil forest in Switzerland, kept at the Angoulême Museum, the exhibition explores the theme of travel and elsewhere in the artist's work. Many painted works, some of which have never been seen before, will be presented alongside a varied artistic and documentary collection: drawings, notebooks, illustrated books, photographs, letters and even postcards.
