In this one-man show, a man explores what shaped him and joyfully celebrates his working-class heritage. An intimate tale that explores notions of belonging, transmission, and social emancipation.
This show, chosen by the young people of the Angoulême Theatre Programming Club, tells the story of a son and grandson of factory workers from the Landes region, who became a writer and director who worked alongside some of the greatest artists—from Ivo Van Hove to Krzysztof Warlikowski. To tell his story, Matthieu Dandreau first interviewed around thirty members of his family, asking them the same questions: "Who are you? Where are you from? What job did you dream of doing as a child? Do you have any bad habits? What does love mean to you?..." Drawing on their answers, he mixed in personal memories, both imagined and real, as well as his hopes and frustrations as a young man "stuck in the countryside." The result is a well-documented one-man show, which starts from the intimate, burdened with the weight of social and familial determinism, to emancipate itself towards a joyful and spectacular writing.
Led by the explosive Grégory Fernandes, Nostalgie du confort addresses class tensions, taboos, and the media icons that shape our identities, and pays a sincere and necessary tribute to the working classes. A show combining video, cabaret, and the joy of acting, where the "I" meets the universal, celebrating a rural France that is too rarely heard and represented.
