International capital of comics, designated creative city by Unesco, Angoulême has an international reputation. The International Comics Festival (FIBD), the International City of Comics and Images (CIBDI)and the route of the painted walls have become emblems of the city.

Once upon a time there were three friends… and they created a comic book festival in Angoulême

“France loves the 9th Art”. It is with these words that the 2020 edition of the International Comic Strip Festival was launched in 47. Today, the Festival is one of the most important comic book events worldwide. Every year the city welcomes nearly 6000 professionals and 200 visitors from all over the world!

Next edition from January 25 to 28, 2024

The International City of Comics and Images is a ship, a footbridge, cellars...

The International City of Comics and Images brings together a museum of comics labeled museum of France - the only one in France to date -, a public library, a house of authors, a specialized bookshop, a documentation center , a brasserie and an art house cinema.

On January 1, 2008, the International City of Comics and Images was born.

City : this set is spread over three sites: the House of Authors, on the city ramparts, the Mœbius vessel below on the banks of the Charente, and the comic strip museum, in the cellars located on the other bank and connected to the Mœbius vessel by a footbridge which spans the river.

International : just like the festival that animates Angoulême at the end of January, the Cité has become the French reference in terms of comics, welcoming authors, researchers and amateurs from all over the world and exporting knowledge and know-how.

Cartoon and picture: more than ever, faced with the evolution of practices and the convergence of disciplines, comics in Angoulême go hand in hand with animated films, video games, interactive media... These dimensions are considerably developed within the new establishment. .

cultural : the International City of Comics and Images is the cultural component of the system deployed in Charente for the conservation, distribution, study, promotion and assistance for creation in the field of comics and image, with the economic aspect being handled by Magelis, a mixed syndicate of the image division.

The 9th Art is displayed in Angoulême!

The good plan to visit with the family: the circuit of painted walls produced by “Cité Créations”. Go from Goscinny's office to Uderzo's Cosmos, from the romanticism of "Mémoire du 20e Ciel" to the futuristic universe of "Journey through images" and come across Natacha, Lucien, Gaston, The Smurfs, the Daltons, Titeuf and many others.
