Why we love

This circuit progresses through the heart of fertile land reclaimed from the ancient marshes of Vélude and Pérat. You will be able to observe some wading birds near the reed beds and will be accompanied by the song of the larks along the cultivated fields.

Your itinerary

Roullet-Saint-Estèphe

1

Step 1

Walk past the school and past the war memorial to take Chemin du Maine Beaupart on the left – see the Maison à Balet at the intersection. Leave the asphalt path continuing on the left. Pass the La Vélude stream which originates at the foot of the hamlet of Chardin and runs for a while through the still very marshy valley.
2

Step 2

Take the rural road to the left after the Vélude and observe the reed beds a little further on on your left where you may be able to see little egrets (egrets photo).
3

Step 3

At the asphalt path, turn right, continue for a few hundred meters and continue the road on the right. Observe on your right the house of Fontfroide which would have been part of the numerous hunting meetings of François I. At the bend, continue straight on the grass path towards the truffle oak plantations in the village of Chardin. At the road level, take Route des Vignes opposite. Continue on the road on the right, do not take the Impasse des Enclous. Stay on the paved road
4

Step 4

Turn left on Route du Sel then straight on Chemin Boisné. Walk along the rows of vines and continue on the winding slope before going back up.
5

Step 5

At the intersection, take the path on the right which takes up part of the Roman road linking Périgueux to Saintes (chemin Boisné). Pass over the Pérat stream. Continue the white path on the right then right again towards the vineyards and the woods.
6

Step 6

When you arrive at the end of Chemin Boisné, turn left towards the village of Pondeville. Continue the road on the right and observe the beautiful Charente residences.
7

Step 7

After the well, continue straight for around 100 meters, take the path on your right at the road blocks and continue on the main white path for around 1200m. Observe again the Fontfroide home in the distance.
8

Step 8

Continue the path going to the right and pass above the Vélude. Continue towards the church of Saint Estèphe.
