Why we love

The first part of this circuit offers, from the plateau, beautiful views of the surrounding villages, then the second part calmly goes up the course of the Charente river.

Your itinerary

1

Step 1

Walk along the Saint Pierre church on the right and take the small passage du Guet which leads into the square. Continue to descend then follow to the left at the bottom to engage in Chemin du Pont Lamy. Cross the Boëme and cross the Lubersac park.
2

Step 2

Continue to the right along the Route de Châteauneuf. Cross 100 m via the pedestrian crossing to reach Chemin de la Pallue. Go up the Chemin des Carrières and go straight onto the plateau.
3

Step 3

Turn left then cross the road and follow the stone path opposite which runs alongside old quarries.
4

Step 4

Leave the path to take the one on your left which crosses the wooded area. At the intersection after the small woods, continue on the path opposite. Follow this on the right then continue on the left. At the tarmac path, turn right into Rue des Grenouillères. Continue on the left to reach Rue de Chez Bernier.
5

Step 5

Take the road to the left and leave it immediately for the Impasse des Renardières which goes up to the right. Turn left at the top and stay on this path until you reach the entrance to the village of Fustifort. Follow the road to the right for approximately 200 m.
6

Step 6

Turn right onto a small, visible path located between a grove and the low wall of a house, then cross the woods. At the exit, head left towards the vineyard fields - see the Bertonnières lodge opposite and go down to the road which you briefly follow to the right.
7

Step 7

Turn left into the Impasse du Maine Michaud and cross the village at the foot of which the Claix flows – see the balet house, and further up the fireplace, bread oven and ponne assembly on the left. Continue on the path then turn right at the top – enjoy beautiful views.
8

Step 8

Continue along the road to the left, go down Rue des Épinettes and reach the roundabout which you carefully cross towards Sireuil. Cross the bridge.
9

Step 9

Go down towards the river stop and go up the course of the Charente for 4 km, remaining discreet to observe the swans, moorhens or ducks. See, perched on the cliff, the house of Rochebertier, known for having sheltered Calvin and then his Protestant disciples. The rocks, hollowed out by remarkable caves, were once connected to the house by a drawbridge which has now disappeared.
10

Step 10

Pass under the Meure bridge and head to the right to join the road and cross the river. Enter the parking lot on the right and take the path furthest to the left to follow the road and join the stony path which runs alongside the railway line. Continue to the left at the end of the path to reach the starting point. On arrival, see the town hall, flanked by the two round towers of the castle built in 1680 and the Saint-Pierre church.
