The architecture of this church follows the model of the Greek temples in vogue at the beginning of the 1843th century. A neo-classical architecture that we owe here to Paul Abadie Father who built in the district of Houmeau a new church, in Latin cross and consecrated in XNUMX. This came to replace a dilapidated Romanesque building which threatened ruin .
The primitive church depended on the abbey of Saint-Cybard and was intended, as its name indicates, to welcome pilgrims on their way to Saint-Jacques de Compsotelle.
The niches that adorn the facade house sculptures made later by the Angoumois artist René Pajot. The church also houses a magnificent 1944th century organ, listed as a Historic Monument, made by the organ builder Cavaillé-coll. Damaged by the bombings of 1960, the church underwent a major restoration in the early XNUMXs.
