At the crossroads of the Flow Vélo and the Transibérique, you can discover the Angoulême region by bike
The Green Coulee
La coulée verte is an old towpath which runs along the Charente river for almost 20 km between Saint-Yrieix-sur-Charente and Nersac. This green setting also crosses Angoulême, particularly at the iconic Comic Strip Museum, and offers incredible views of the old town, all while running along the Charente river (right bank).
This route is also used by the routes of the Flow vélo and Scandibérique.
With Angoulême, as a starting point, the Comic Strip Museum or the Guinguette de Bourgine in Angoulême, two ideas for a safe excursion. Depending on your choice of afternoon activity, you can head towards Petite Prairie (St-Yrieix) to the north (afternoon picnic, relaxing and swimming at St-Yrieix lake) or the direction of the South towards the Moulin de Fleurac (Linars) i.e. 15 km.
In any case, the path will invite you to discover rich and varied vegetation ranging from wet meadows to riverside woods. The environments you will cross are suitable for many species of birds, amphibians, insects and small mammals.
Direction St-Yrieix & Touvre:
1st step: Picnic and swimming at the lake
With its 70 hectares, the lake site offers:
> the possibility of practicing multiple activities: swimming, sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking, canoeing, jogging, mini-quad, orienteering, fishing, etc.,
> a relaxation area for the whole family: play and picnic areas, walking areas, carousel,
> accommodation capacity for associative groups or families thanks to camping,
> a refreshment bar for fast food on site,
> numerous sporting and cultural events throughout the year.
2nd stage the sources of the roof
The Touvre is an astonishing, if not unique, river! Its resurgences are spectacular. The natural site is magnificent. A route allows you to discover the many riches of this space and its river which feeds the Charente. A detour through the church provides a superb panoramic view. A break at the fish farming allows you to fish for trout without a fishing license and without any particular technical knowledge. Fun family fun!

I might as well tell you right away. Ziclou did not come here to “applaud the caravan”… The cycle race is his “department”! So try to stay on his wheel and have the titanium sock, because this Poï'z never deflates.
At the end of this adventure, why not push on to Sireuil to visit the Distillerie des Moisans ? She offers a complete tour of the site to learn everything about cognac or Pineau.
And your bike?
If you don't have a bike or not enough for the whole family or friends, don't panic! Since July 2023, Angoulême has had a network of electric bike rental stations. From the station, the city center and 6 other stations located in the city, it is now possible to rent a bike for a few hours for a comfortable ride in complete freedom and at a very reasonable price!
In addition to the “long-term” subscription offers, it is possible to rent a bike for 12 hours for just €5.
