Frescoes in comic strip colors are displayed on the walls of the capital of the 9th art. Just like the works of different Street art artists... A stroll decodes the backstage of their history and their techniques...

The city of Angoulême has initiated a vast program of comic wall murals. With more than thirty long-lasting painted walls, the city has a recognized and unique tourist route. These painted walls are made both in the city center and in suburban neighborhoods.

Their realization was entrusted to CityCreation and its team of muralists, world specialists in architectural trompe-l'oeil. Their artistic approach is completely in line with urban thinking. Indeed, it is in direct contact with the public space and its inhabitants. The painted walls enhance the city. They effectively demonstrate that the world of comics dialogues harmoniously with the architecture and heritage of Angoulême.

The wall frescoes are signed by big names in comics. All Grand Prix of the Angoulême Comics Festival.

In addition to the numerous painted walls, the world capital of comics has been enriched with statues. First of all, the famous Lucien, by Franck Margerin, has been exhibited since 2015 on the roof of Angoulême station.

Also, a obelisk, tribute to René Goscinny, headquartered since 2017 on the station square. It measures 4,5 meters high and weighs almost 7 tonnes. Furthermore, the work of the Chinese artist, Tchang Tchong-Jen, is located in the heart of the city. It's a bronze bust, tribute to his friend Hergé. Then, further on, on the “Hugo Pratt” footbridge, stands proudly towards the Ocean Corto Maltese. Spanning the Charente, it was sculpted by Livio and Luc Benedetti.
