Located at the apse of the cathedral, in the former bishopric, the Angoulême Museum invites you on a journey through time and cultures thanks to three major collections, shaped over the course of its history.
Two of them, of international scope, stand out in particular: the collection of African and Oceanic arts, which explores the richness and diversity of the world's cultures, and the archaeology collection, which traces the history of humanity, from the dinosaurs to the Middle Ages. The collection of western arts, for its part, brings together paintings, sculptures and ceramics, from the 16th to the 20th century, creating an original dialogue between different periods and artistic movements.
His collections
Archaeology: Dive into the geological wealth of the Charente, discover the evolution of prehistoric cultures and the practices born of sedentarization, as well as fascinating testimonies of aristocratic and religious life in the Middle Ages.
Non-European arts: The museum houses one of the most remarkable French collections of African and Oceanic art, both in terms of the number and quality of the pieces on display.
Western Arts : This collection surprises with its unexpected encounters between works from different periods or artistic movements, offering the visitor a journey that is both rich and lively.
